Aldgate Aerial Park

Sited between the City of London and the 2012 Olympic site in East London, the Aldgate Olympic Park acts both as a gateway and a destination. Located on the site of one of London’s original medieval gates, the new Aldgate Olympic Park creates a complex field condition populated by a series of new vaulting gates that support a raised park. The forest of gates resist the binary concept of traditional gates and promotes a multiplicitous understanding of urban territory. The multiple gates formed by the cantilevered and vaulting structures form a open network that pulls pedestrians and vehicles from all directions.

This network is composed of 14 cellular supports that create a new destination above the street. Various park programs including performance venues, water features, viewing points, cafes, and public restrooms are distributed throughout the cellular geometry of the park. Three of the cells hold elevators and stairs. The covered areas below the park are used for weekly street and farmers markets.

New visualizations added in 2026.
